An Assortment

fresh black grapes ~
how broken is a heart
taken to dreaming?

spring blossoms ~
so brief
the surge of happiness

spring blossoms~
so inviting the wilderness
for  the inexperienced heart!

And the following marks the day today:

earth quake ~
the blunder I make
bounce back!

~The heart is forever inexperienced.~ Henry David Thoreau

~ We are all travellers in the wilderness of this world, and the best we can find in our travels is an honest friend. ~ Robert Louis Stevenson

Basho - I

Basho’s path ~

an indistinct instinct to carry

what I need not

~ Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.~ Matsuo Basho

~ ‘Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the men of old; seek what they sought.’ ~ Matsuo Basho

Yes, influenced by Basho's 'The Narrow Road to the Deep North' or 'The Narrow Road to the Interior' – not just about self discovery, but in search of the 'soul' /the 'self' of haiku, the soul of poetry. There definitely must be something like that - that which is separate from the poet/writer. Could be that I am at the very start of it...feel so.

'Bread and Roses'

as if the night never been,
purple dahlias
lighter... brighter

‘Bread and Roses’
reads the freckled label
on the old flower vase ~
 weighing things not to do
against things to do

~ Bread feeds the body, indeed, but flowers feed also the soul.  ~The Koran

~I hope some day to meet God, because I want to thank Him for the flowers.  ~Robert Brault

* 'Bread and Roses' slogan behind the celebration of International Women's Day ~   'On 8 March 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter work hours, better pay, voting rights and an end to child labour. They adopted the slogan 'Bread and Roses', with bread symbolising economic security and roses a better quality of life. In May, the Socialist Party of America designated the last Sunday in February for the observance of National Women's Day.' ~ http://www.un.org/cyberschoolbus/womensday/pages/how_content_1.asp

Evening of 26/2/12 –

guarded by Venus and  Jupiter
the crescent smile ~
through the horizon
the birds,
homeward

Mountain (IV)

mountain sunset
even the wind’s,
a sad tale~
only the birds,
. . . only the birds return

mountain shadows~
their stories
echo in the wind

mountain sunset ~
the air thick with the scent
of wildflowers

mountain sunset~
this terrible need to start
with the basics, again

~ I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.  ~John Burroughs

~Nature rejuvenates so quickly, so completely.  Though we often view ourselves otherwise, we are nature.  ~ Jeb Dickerson

~ To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter; to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life.  ~John Burroughs

Dreams

flood of sunlight ~
hyacinths beguiling the mind
with nothing, but dreams
reminding nothing, but the beauty,
the verity of dreams

~ Dreams are more real than reality itself, they're closer to the self.~ Gao Xingjian,  Dialogue and Rebuttal

~ The best reason for having dreams is that in dreams no reasons are necessary. ~ Ashleigh Brilliant
